Ortus Ex Cinis Cineris

The future's a sneaky little bastard. Always coming up from behind you and knocking you for a loop.

My name's Michael Seigler, and I'm the lead writer for an upcoming Online PC game titled Mortus Online: Ortus Ex Cinis Cineris. At the beginning of the summer, I went a little bit crazy deciding I wanted to get hard and heavy into indy game development. I posted an ad for my specialties on gamedev.net and was quickly attached to three separate projects as a writer. Unfortunately, I bit off more than I could chew, and quickly fell behind. Rather than do the right thing and resign from one or two of the projects that I didn't have time for, I simply disappeared and stopped working on any of them, without any notice to any of the people I was responsible to. Of course, as with all things, stupid as that sounds, it wasn't quite that simple, as I kept thinking that in just a day or so, I'd be able to come back, and all would be well again. It took several months for me to even fully realize what I'd done, and I was far from pleased with myself. However, I eventually signed back on to the Messenger account I'd been using to contact game developers, and the other writer from the Mortus project (despite not remembering who I was at first) recommended that I talk to Nick, the man in charge, since he never had replaced me.

To my everlasting surprise and wonder, I was welcomed back with open arms, almost as if nothing had ever happened. It was a fluke that I hope never to have the opportunity to repeat, but I suppose in many ways it turned out for the best. In the time I was gone, the project (We're now well past that point) and had attracted some pro-level talent to the project. This is a developing marvel, and while I've been given reasonably free reign on developing the intricacies of the world the game takes place in, some of the gameplay ideas that rest at the core of this thing are likely to turn the MMO world upside-down if they can be properly implemented, and make the term MMORTS no longer a thing to be scoffed at.

I'll be posting here from time to time, giving people the skinny on what the minds behind Mortus are up to, and hopefully some of the other team members will stop by to say a few words occasionally too. Its gonna be a wild ride, and I hope you'll be around to share it with me.
